AUGMENTED REALITY FINAL PROJECT
Project In Immersive Media 1 at George Brown College
Designer
December 2022
Overview: My concept was my personal business card that could be scanned using the an Instagram filter build in SparkAR. Once the camera detects my physical business card in the real world, it triggers my information and pops up on the user's screen.
This was a final project done in my Immersive Media 1 class at George Brown College. I had worked alone, and was given three weeks to complete the final product.
Background: The purpose of this project was to show the new skills and tools that were learned throughout the fall semester to create an augmented reality filter using SparkAR. The class was given the option to work on a previous project and improve it, or create a completely new concept.
Key Achievements:
-
Learned how to use SparkAR target tracker to trigger information.
-
Learned how to use object tap to allow users interact with the filter by tapping.
-
Achieved my goal of creating a cyberpunk style aesthetic filter/business card.
Phase One: Research
The first step was figuring out what I wanted to create, and how to create it. I began with brainstorming and sketching my ideas. For each idea I would search up tutorials, or similar concepts to get a better understanding of how I can create my concept in SparkAR.

Phase Two: DESIGN
There were two components to the product. The business card, and the AR filter.

Results & Takeaways

It was a very exciting experience to use all my new learned knowledge to create an augmented reality filter that was personal to me. During the research/design process, I noticed that there was a lack of tutorials for AR filters due to AR still being a new thing. So the main source that I used to help me create my final project was the SparkAR documents.
